Niche Site Backlinks: How to Tell If a Site Is Really Worth a Link

When a vendor sells you a link from a niche site, they’re selling two completely different things in the same breath: topical relevance, and a number called DR. The two aren’t connected, and only one of them can be verified on your own.

Niche site backlinks are inbound links (backlinks) from sites that cover the same content area as yours, for example a natural medicine blog linking to a clinic. In Israel they sell for between ₪90 (ILS) per link in large packages and ₪250 per link in a small package. Unlike a link from a news portal, their value comes from contextual fit, not from the size of the host site.

  • 0 to 100 on a logarithmic scale is what DR measures. It’s a proprietary Ahrefs metric based on a site’s link profile, not on how many visitors it gets (Ahrefs, Domain Rating glossary)
  • Only two sources are currently cited in Google’s AI answer on this topic in Hebrew, and neither presents verified data (checked September 18, 2026)
  • ₪90 to ₪250 per link is the price range in our link packages, depending on package size (live price list, September 2026)

“DR measures a link profile, not an audience. A vendor who sells you a DR range but won’t show you the name of a single site is selling you a number you can’t check. Ask for the list, and check how many visitors those sites actually get.”

A niche site is a site where all the content revolves around one topic, for example pest control, interior design or English lessons. A link from it counts for more when the linking site’s topic is close to yours, because it adds context, not just a referral.

Google says this directly. Its SEO Starter Guide states that links add context about a topic, for both users and search engines, and can help show expertise in a field. Notice what it doesn’t say: there’s no mention of a domain authority score, in any form.

The common confusion is between the two words. A natural medicine site is fully niche, but it isn’t relevant to an auto parts store. Niche is a property of the linking site. Relevance is the relationship between that site and yours. Common mistake: buying a package of ten links from ten niche sites, none of which cover your field, and calling it a relevant link profile.

What does DR actually measure, and why doesn’t it indicate traffic?

DR stands for Domain Rating, a proprietary metric from Ahrefs. According to Ahrefs’ own definition, it represents the strength of a site’s link profile on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100. Two words in there make all the difference: link profile, and logarithmic.

Link profile means the metric counts who links to the site, not how many people visit it. A site can build a high DR without a single visitor reading a word on it. Logarithmic means the gap between DR 75 and 76 is much bigger than the gap between 20 and 21, so comparing two sites linearly by this number is misleading from the start.

Why this matters when you buy: DR is a metric from a third-party tool vendor, not from Google. Google states that ranking is done algorithmically and that it doesn’t accept payment to rank pages higher. We wrote about this before in our post on high DR vs. high traffic, and that’s still our position.

Diagram showing that DR is measured from the link profile, while the actual audience is measured through a separate channel
DR is derived from who links to a site. Its visitor count is measured separately, and the two metrics don’t have to move together.

What does tell you a niche site is worth a link?

Four signals you can check yourself in a few minutes, without trusting any number the vendor gave you and without installing any paid tool. All of them rely only on what you can see on the linking site’s live page and in Google’s search results.

  1. Real organic traffic. Search Google for three phrases taken from the site’s article titles. If it doesn’t rank for its own content, a link from it won’t pass much
  2. Topical closeness to your field, not to a general one. A blog about “tips and info” isn’t a niche, it’s a junk drawer
  3. A human publishing pace. A site that publishes three articles a day, each with a commercial outbound link, looks exactly like what it is
  4. Anchor text that reads naturally in the sentence. In our analysis of 100 link building campaigns, this was the clearest difference between campaigns that worked and campaigns that stalled

Bottom line: if you have to choose between a DR 45 site with no traffic and a DR 12 site that gets thousands of visits a month in your field, the second one wins almost every time.

How do you vet a niche link vendor in Israel?

We reviewed the Israeli market on September 18, 2026, and the pattern repeats: leading vendors advertise an impressive authority range, for example “DR 40 to 90”, and show a string of big numbers on the page, without the name of a single site and without a list you can open and check. A number without a domain next to it isn’t data. It’s a marketing message.

The simple test is to ask for the list. A transparent vendor will give you site names, and you can check each one yourself against the four signals above. DigiAssets publishes its full site list (in Hebrew) openly and on an ongoing basis, with the name, domain and data for each site, so you can do this check before you pay, not after.

Pro tip: if the vendor refuses to show a list before payment, ask for at least three examples of existing articles published for other clients. That’s enough to check traffic, publishing pace and anchor style.

How many niche links do you need, and at what pace?

There’s no right number, and anyone who quotes one without looking at your link profile is guessing. What we can say: niche links are the foundation, not the icing, so they’re built over time, not in one push.

Our practical rule in organic SEO is to build a base of relevant links before touching major portals, and to spread them out over months. A new site that gets fifty links in a single week creates a pattern that’s easy to spot, and pacing matters as much as volume. An SEO agency that kicks off a project with one big push is working for the report, not for the site.

Most important of all: links won’t fix a site without content. If you don’t have pages that deserve to rank, a link just brings Google to the weak page faster, which is the exact opposite of what you wanted. The first investment is always in content that earns links, and only then in links pointing to it.

When is a niche site better, and when is a news site the right call?

A niche site link adds topical context, and a news site link adds presence in a well-known environment. For most businesses, niche links are the foundation, and a portal link is an add-on for a later stage, once there’s already a diverse profile and content that justifies it.

There’s one case where the order flips: a brand heading into a funding round, a merger or a PR push that wants its name to appear in a recognized setting, even if the direct organic impact is small. That’s a perfectly legitimate marketing decision, but call it what it is and don’t present it as an SEO move. Otherwise you’ll measure it by rankings and be disappointed by something that was never meant to move them.

The full comparison, including what Google says about sponsored sections on portals and what we found when we reviewed sponsored articles on Israeli news sites, is in our separate article on news site backlinks. We won’t repeat it here, because it requires a separate discussion of Google’s policies, not just the question of relevance.

How much does a niche site backlink cost, and what exactly do you get?

In the DigiAssets catalog, as of September 2026, the price per link drops with package size: ₪250 (ILS) per link in the 2-link package, ₪150 in the 12-link package, ₪115 in the 48-link package and ₪90 per link in the 200-link package. Market prices change, so the binding number is the one on the product page itself, not a table in a blog post.

What to confirm is included before you pay: placement in the body of an article, not on a links page; an anchor you approve in advance; and an explicit commitment on how long the link stays live. These three items are the difference between an asset and a one-time expense.

What not to pay for: a promise of a number of links without knowing which sites they come from, or a package priced well below the market. In the Israeli market, an unusually low price almost always means the links come from a single site network that Google already knows about.

FAQ

What is a niche site backlink?

It is an inbound link from a site whose content is entirely about one field, close to the field of the linked site. Its value comes from the topical match, not from the size of the host site.

Does a high DR mean the link is good?

Not necessarily. DR is a proprietary Ahrefs metric that measures the strength of a site’s backlink profile on a logarithmic scale from 0 to 100, not how many visitors it gets. A site can reach a high DR without meaningful organic traffic.

Does Google use DR or DA?

These are metrics from third-party companies, Ahrefs and Moz, not Google metrics. Google documents that ranking is done programmatically, and it does not publish a domain authority score that can be bought or viewed.

How do I check whether a niche site is worth a link?

Search Google for three phrases taken from the site’s article titles and see whether it ranks for them, confirm its field really is close to yours, and check its publishing frequency and the anchor style in existing articles.

How much does a niche site backlink cost in Israel?

In DigiAssets packages, the price ranges from ₪250 per link in a small package to ₪90 per link in the 200-link package, as of September 2026. The price per link goes down as the package gets bigger.

Which is better, a link from a niche site or from a news site?

For most businesses, niche links are the foundation and a link from a news portal is a later addition. The full comparison, including Google’s policy on sponsored sections, is in our separate article on links from news sites.

Is buying links from niche sites risky?

Under Google’s spam policies, a link bought to pass ranking is a link scheme unless it is qualified with the appropriate attribute. The bigger practical risk for the buyer is financial: paying for sites with no real audience.

What is the difference between a niche site and a general content site?

A niche site covers one field in depth, while a general content site covers many fields at a surface level. A link from a general site carries less contextual value, because it doesn’t signal any specific expertise.

Should I buy links from a niche site with few visitors?

Sometimes, yes, if its field is very close to yours and its content is real. A small niche site in exactly the right field can be worth more than a large, broad site with no connection to your field.

Where on the page should the link appear?

In the body of the article, inside a paragraph about your topic, not in a list of links at the bottom of the page or in a sidebar. A link that sits in real editorial context is worth more than one tacked onto a page after it was written.

How long until I see an impact?

There is no guaranteed timeline, and we don’t give one. The impact depends on the site’s existing content, how competitive the keyword is and the starting backlink profile, so two sites with the same package can see completely different results.

Want to know which links your site is actually missing?

  • A review of your existing backlink profile
  • Matching the linking site’s field to yours
  • A full site list, before you pay
