This dashboard completely changed how we measure AI traffic
Over the past few months I’ve noticed an interesting pattern with clients: traffic that Google Analytics labels as “Direct” or “Referral.” What is it really? AI traffic.
People ask ChatGPT a question, get a website recommendation, click, and land on your site.
The problem? You don’t know it’s happening. It gets lost in the data and is often recorded as plain direct traffic.
Then I came across a dashboard by Steve Toth (one of the most respected SEO people out there, and one of my personal favorites).
He decided to take this data gap a step further and built a Looker Studio dashboard that connects to your Google Analytics and pulls all of this data automatically:
-How much traffic came from ChatGPT
-How much from Perplexity
-How much from Gemini
-How much from Claude and the other engines.
-Exactly which pages received those visits
-Key metrics like Engagement, Bounce, Conversions and more, all from your own Google Analytics account.
Bottom line, if you own a website, here’s why this matters to you:
If you’re not measuring it, you’re blind to your AI search traffic.
You don’t know if your content performs in AI, you don’t know if it’s worth investing more in AI optimization, and you definitely don’t know which content to produce more of.
Our agency has been using this dashboard for months, and we’re finding surprising things. Some clients get 15% of all their traffic from AI and had no idea.

P.S.
This month our agency is launching a year-end sale on all links, with special prices, new updates and very attractive gifts. I’ll share details soon.
How to use the dashboard:
1. Sign in with the Google account connected to your Google Analytics properties

2. Select the relevant Analytics property (your website)

3. You’ll see accurate data on visits from AI engines only, with no Google, Bing or other traditional search engines.
What you’ll see there:
- Sessions
- Engaged sessions
- Events (leads, sales, or any event you set up in GA4)
- Conversion rate
- Average time on site
- Precise traffic breakdown by AI engine
- A clear chart of your site’s traffic trend
- A view of the specific pages getting traffic from AI engines, with full data for each page.
Here’s what it looks like:
